An object’s general form will sometimes trigger a response in the viewer, even before much is known about it. We find this image especially tranquil, perhaps seeing a resemblance to fallen leaves floating in still water. In fact, these objects are pollen grains from Goldenrod, a lovely wildflower itself, but no more beautiful than this scene from a near-invisible world.
The field of view stretches about 60 micrometers (0.06mm) across this image, so a 12” x 18” print would be magnified about 7000 times.
Although we are not trying to carry the analogy of autumn leaves too far, we did select autumn colors, yellow-brown to umber, for the image.
