The reputation of ragweed pollen as a trigger for hay fever, combined with its decidedly spiky appearance, made for an easy decision to portray this as a fiery sphere. Ask your guests what it might represent. Some might see Inflammation as an immense, blazing sun, overwhelming the dim light of stars behind it, or as a gently glowing lamp of hand-blown glass in a dark room, or even a metaphor for some dramatic concept. And dramatic it certainly is, with a stark beauty to back it up.
(And if you are a physician specializing in allergies, imagine how this could enliven your waiting room!)
The field of view of this image is about 40 micrometers (0.04mm) across, so a 24” x 32” print is magnified about 21,000 times.
As mentioned above, we elected to tint this to accentuate its flame-like form.
