See the soft, inviting folds of this intricately textured surface. See the nasty, jagged spikes so firmly ‘sewn’ into it. You can see the dangers of using this Nightmare Blanket, but would everyone? Would the characters in a horror film? Will the distracted mother use this to wrap her baby? Will the weary travelers accept the vampire’s hospitality? Will you hang this image in your guest room? Don’t touch that dial!
Of course this is not a blanket at all, and the spikes are not intended to be dangerous. We’re looking at a common dust mite, long dead and somewhat rumpled, found in an ancient cobweb.
The field of view across this image is about 55 micrometers, or 0.055mm, so an 18” x 24” print would be magnified about 11,000 times.
We decided to give a slight emphasis to the spikes when we tinted the image.
